The list below shows coordinates and IDs for 196 stars within about 90'
of the Orion Nebula observed for spectral type by Bernacca. I worked from
Asiago Contribution 195 (1967CoAsi.195....3B), but the paper was formally
published as 1967MmSAI..38..169B. The paper is cited in SIMBAD for 180 of
the stars (excluding HD 196687, cited in error, since it is not mentionded in
text/tables as far as I can tell). Most of the stars are relatively bright,
and appear in SIMBAD with precise coordinates, but a large number of IDs were
evident. There is nothing startlingly new here, though for some outlying
stars these are the only published types.
The spectral types were determined from objective-prism plates (103a-O
and 103a-F) taken with the 40cm f/2.5 Asiago Schmidt + 12-deg prism giving
a dispersion of 450A/mm at H-gamma. A slit-spectrum of the metallic-line
star Parenago 2674 (HD 37444) was taken with 1.2-m telescope at 75A/mm.
Bernacca identified the stars only by Parenago number, and these are
shown in the first column of the table. I show Tycho-2 coordinates (usually),
GSC numbers, rough V magnitudes, Bernacca's types, and common names in the
successive columns. I matched the completed list against the HD, southern BD,
PPM Supplement, IRAS, MSX, GCVS v4.1/NSV, and Dearborn red stars catalogues.
Each star was looked up by position in SIMBAD with a 90" search radius to find
identifications; about 30 sets of these have been sent to Gerard Jasniewicz.
