Kato-san has just introduced another series of vsnet-lists.
While some of these new lists are welcomed (for example,
there is no cepheid/RR Lyr list, either amateur or professional,
that I know of), others seem to be duplicates of very good
lists that already exist. For example, vsnet-grb offers
nothing over aavso-grb-list that I can see; vsnet-preprint
sounds less useful than http://xxx.lanl.gov/abs/astro-ph.
Do you have specific reasons why you are starting these
lists?
Also, the thing I find most difficult with the proliferation
of vsnet-xxx maillists is digests, since there is no way that
I can spend half of my lifetime subscribing to several dozen
maillists (no, John, I don't post to every maillist in existence,
and that fraction has just been reduced even further!). It
would be really helpful if you would spend some of your
remarkable energy in making the vsnet daily digest more useful.
For example, breaking it into separate digests for each
maillist; better keyword searching; multiple days per digest
instead of multiple digests per day; etc. Right now I have
to plow through thousands of vsnet-mira-wanted messages to
find anything!
