[vsnet-chat 3063] ?More cataclysmic stars?

  Dear colleagues,

  Over 600 MVS variables - from AN 1.1936 to AN 604.1936 -
are identified in IBVS 4863-4865.
Cuno Hoffmeister made a long list of remarks for these variables (271).
It appears on reprint of AN Nr 6195 (Band 259 - April 1936).
I found three of the remarks very noteworthy, and checked
the corresp. variables from scans at the USNO-Flagstaff server.


AN 107.1936 = FQ Mon
--------------------

- "Der schwache stern steht mit abnehmender Helligkeit
auf 4 Platten 1929 Febr. 2, 7, 8, 10. Er ist 1929 Jan 10
unsichtbar, ebenso auf zahlreichen Platten von 1927 bis 1935."

  The identified star in IBVS 4863 is blue, at mag 19 on A2.0.
No red candidates around. I could neither confirm the blue star
nor any other showing definite variability on available scans.
The possible quiescent CV may certainly be invisible on them.


AN 224.1936 = V607 Oph
----------------------

- "Hell nur auf den Platten von 1935; auf guten Platten
den vorausgegangenen Jahre teils 16m, teils sicher unsichtbar."

  Appears to be red on available scans - large amplitude,
yet the type seems to be unconfirmed.


AN 271.1936 = V651 Oph
----------------------

- "Die Existenz des Sterns ist durch gute Platten gesichert,
ebenso die Unsichtbarkeit. Anscheinend ist der Stern nur selten
und fu"r kurze Zeit hell. Mira-Art scheint nicht vorzuliegen."

  Bright on one scan, otherwise at or near minimum.
A great chance that this is a short period CV.
