...moonlight and light pollution. My observations with 17.5" dob
may be divided into 3 classes with respective limiting mag:
1) low power - takes about 30 seconds
2) high power: obs with change into 6 to 12 mm eyepiece takes a minute,
more if I let the field drift in
3) high power and readaptation - takes about two minutes.
I confirm that it is possible to put up speed and change
priorities quickly if there are clouds coming in.
I do memorize all my magnitudes, except when some stars are
in outburst or are observed more than once (eclipsers).
I observe my watch then, and at the start/end of session.
My timing accuracy is not as good as precision
(accuracy rather 30 minutes than 15). I do not want to freeze myself,
particularly my bony hands unnecessarily - so I write down
my observations after each session.
It often happens that I forget to write down some observations.
Those forgotten stars usually pop up ('hey you forgot me') right
after e-mail to vsnet-obs, but at least on my next visit.

Timo Kinnunen
