Dear Stan, The spin period of TV Col was initially discovered from the X-ray. Optical data usually don't show it. Yet, we have found a weak evidence for its existence in an excellent old run (6 successive long nights - ~7 hr each, clear filter, 1-m telescope) carried out in 1989 when the star was in its quiescence state. The full amplitude of the variation was ~0.03 mag, so I don't expect that amateurs will be able to detect it. In addition, in outbursts, I believe that it might be even more difficult to observe it due to the noise. The bright disc should then obscure its inner parts.
