Reminds me of an excited phone call I got a few years ago from a
beginning observer - "I've just started looking at V Pav tonight and
it's exploded! I can see it in binoculars!"
I then explained that the catalogued maximum of 9.7 referred to a
_photographic_ magnitude. And that V Pav can always be seen with 7x50
binoculars.
The GCVS can be quite misleading about this half of the sky! ;-)
