G'day all,
An interesting bit of trivia...
While preparing a chart recently I discovered that the bright variable
CK Ori (Hip 25785) is "constant"; according to the Hipparcos satellite.
Although CK Ori was observed 140 times, the catalogued range is only
6.35-6.38 Hpmag. Apparently this is small enough to be classed as
"constant".
Although I've found many examples in the Hipparcos/Tycho Catalogues
where the full range of a variable was not detected; this is the first
time I've found a known variable where no variation was detected.
It's hard to believe CK Ori did absolutely nothing for 3 years, so my
guess is that Hipparcos kept seeing the same part of the lightcurve. Has
anyone found any other cases where Hipparcos was "unlucky" ?
cheers,
Fraser Farrell
