Dear SN watchers, IAUC 7704 informed that SN 2001du was revealed as type II caught on the early phase. The spectrum (and color) suggest that it is affected little extinction. The position of SN 2001du was exposed by HST, as I wrote, which will possible provide the information (or identification) of the progenitor. The reported magnitudes up to now are consistent for the typical SN II at the Virgo distance. Keep your eyes on this bright SN, though it would be a southern object. Sincerely Yours, Hitoshi Yamaoka, Kyushu Univ., Japan yamaoka@rc.kyushu-u.ac.jp
