From: "Ivan L. Andronov" <il-a@mail.ru> Subject: 70 let N.M.Shakhovskomu ->VSNET Date: Mon, 23 Apr 2001 10:30:07 +0400 April 23,2001 is the day of 70-th Anniversary of Dr. Nickolay M.Shakhovskoy. He is a pioneer of polarimetric studies of astronomical objects in the former Soviet Union and Ukraine. Linear polarization of eclipsing binary stars with accretion disks, interstellar polarization, polarization of the comets and asteroids, flare stars, circular polarization of AM Her-type stars, synchronizing polar BY Cam, intermediate polars, "non-magnetic" nova-like variables with superhumps and QPOs, systems with neutron stars, blazars- this is an incomplete list of scientific interests of N.M.Shakhovskoy. The total number of ADS references is 130 (Shakhovskoy)/126(Shakhovskoj). In honor of this celebration, a small conference has been organized in the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory (chairman Dr. Y.S.Efimov, efimov@crao.crimea.ua) with the following lectures on the topics connected with studies joint with N.M.Shakhovskoy (shakh@crao.crimea.ua): Ivan L.Andronov. Structure and Evolution of Cataclysmic binary stars S.V.Kolesnikov. The problem of AM Her A.V.Halevin. Non-stationary processes in the AM Her-type objects E.P.Pavlenko. V 1504 Cyg - unusual dwarf nova D.F.Lupishko. Polarimetry of asteroids N.N.Kiselev. Polarimetry of comets V.K.Rosenbush. Effect of opposition in asteroids. V.M.Larionov. X-ray sources R.E.Gershberg. Polarization of the outbursts of the flare stars. V.P.Grinin. The nature of photopolarimetric activity A.N.Rostopchina. Results of multi-year photometric observations of SV Cep D.N.Shakhovskoy.
