Dear SN watchers,

Duplicated supernovae have been caught! According to IAUC 7310, Perth
group has discovered SN 1999ex in the same Sbc galaxy IC 5179 as SN Ia
1999ee. The position is reported as: R.A. = 22h16m07s.27, Decl. =
-36o50'53".7 (2000.0). From this potision, the offset from the core
of the host galaxy is estimated as about 21" west and 17" south. SN
1999ex is on the middle of southwest part of the disk, while SN 1999ee
is near the bulge and on the southeast of the nucleus. Somewhat
bright HII-region-like condensation is there east-to-south of this SN.
There is a foreground star (mag about 17) whose offset from the
nucleus of IC 5179 is about 42" west and 43" south. CCD observer of
SN 1999ee should check your images. The discoverers noted that the
image taken on Oct. 25.58 (limiting mag about 19) did not shown new
SN.

Spectroscopy by ESO NTT and (probably accidental) UBV photometry by
CTIO 0.91-m telescope (also reported on IAUC 7310) reveals that SN
1999ex is of type Ic and just after maximum, which is occured on Nov.
13 at B = 17.3 and V = 16.6.

Such an event was rare as two supernovae appears in one galaxy on the
same year, but probably because of the intense search, such example is
increasing. The most recent case was SNe 1998dq and 1998X in NGC
6754.

Sincerely Yours.
