Greetings all,
I don't know whether anyone is interested in this ... but
since it will take a while for us to have a break in clouds,
I think it may turn out to be a very interesting object.
KAIT observed the field of UGC 748 on Nov 16.18 UT, and there
was one star brightened from mag about 18.0 to 13.3! The template
image was obtained on Sep 15.32 UT, 1998.
Although there are variable stars that brighten as much (4.7 mag),
further observations are needed to study the exact nature of
the object. You can get the finding chart of the object at
http://astron.berkeley.edu/~bait/1999/var.gif
Coordinates for the object:
R.A. = 1:11:57.60
Dec. =35:17:24.8 (2000.0)
Sincerely yours,
Dr. Weidong Li
