From: "Tonny Vanmunster" <Tonny.Vanmunster@advalvas.be> Subject: V589 Her : a new UGSU-type dwarf nova ! Date: Sun, 7 Apr 2002 09:37:28 +0200 Dear colleagues, I have pleasure announcing the detection of superhumps in V589 Her, establishing this object as a new member of the SU UMa-type of dwarf novae. Last night (2002, Apr 06/07), I obtained over 6.1 hours of unfiltered CCD observations under perfect sky conditions, at CBA Belgium Observatory. The resulting light curve, period & phase diagrams, etc will be made available on my web site later today. A first analysis of the light curve clearly shows the presence of superhumps. Combined with yesterday's dataset, I derive a superhump period of 0.086 +/- 0.001 d, and an average amplitude of 0.1 mag. The object is fading from its superoutburst, and was about 0.2 mag fainter than on previous night. It currently is at mag 15.3 C. Please continue monitoring this object on its way back to quiescence. With kind regards, Tonny Vanmunster CBA Belgium Observatory www.lunarpages.com/cbabelgium
