earliest estimates of SN 1994I

Preliminary revision of earliest photographic estimates of SN 1994I.

The following table contains revision of magnitudes from eye estimates
of discovery and prediscovery negative films sent to the National Astronomical
Observatory (Mitaka, Japan). The magnitudes reported by the discoverers
have been already published in IAUCs.
The magnitudes are based on published photoelectric sequences (mainly SK),
but no consideration of different responses of materials has been taken
into account. A T-Max exposure by M. Sasaki may be more closely represent
the B-band, however its small image size and the underlying galaxy makes
accurate estimate very difficult. The exposures by Shimizu well resolves
the SN.
Although at least one CCD magnitude on Mar. 31 has been known, we hope
these earliest estimates may help in investigating the rising phase of this
supernova. We (with the National Astronomical Observatory and Kiso
Observatory) will be working on these materials to get more quantitative
results.

Dear Kato-san,

The followings are the magnitudes of SN 1994 I estimated by you and me
last Monday:

-------------------------------------------------------------
Date (UT) Observer Vmag Instrument
-------------------------------------------------------------
1994
Mar.30.545 S. Shimizu >15.5 60cm refl.+G800(color)
    31.581 S. Shimizu 15.3+/-0.2 same
    31.582 M. Sasaki 14.5+/-0.5 20cm refl.+T-max400
--------------------------------------------------------------

Best regards, Tsuko Nakamura
