V601 Sco

An outburst to 14.7mag was reported on September 7 (vsnet-campaign-dn 2804, 2817), but no eruption was confirmed. It is likely the neighbor red star has been visually detected (vsnet-alert 7467). T. Kato commented about the potential identification problem of V601 Sco: It is possible that R. Stubbings actually observed the "true" brightening of V601 Sco. The identification on Downes CV atlas comes from Vogt and Bateson, who simply selected a "blue" object near the originally reported position. It is possible that the true V601 Sco is a red variable, which may be now rising (vsnet-campaign-dn 2826). H. Yamaoka examined DSS images, and reported that the star 6" WNW of the suggested V601 Sco in Downes CV atlas, i.e. the very red star mentioned above, seems to be indeed a variable (vsnet-campaign-dn 2827).
