SN 2002cs

SN 2002cs was independently discovered on May 5 by the LOTOSS team and by M. Armstrong. The object was 16.3mag (Armstrong) and 15.9mag (KAIT) at its discovery. It is located about 25" due east of the nucleus of NGC 6702 (vsnet-campaign-sn 421). IAUC 7894 informed that the spectrum, taken by the Padova team, the CfA team, and the Lick team on May 7, revealed that it was of type Ia near maximum. They all noted that the expansion velocity is somewhat larger than that for a normal one, which suggests that it can be intrinsically brighter (vsnet-campaign-sn 424).
