SN 2002by
The host galaxy of SN 2002by is ESO 139-G34, in which the expected maximum
for typical SN Ia is mag about 15.5. According to IAUC 7866, the CTIO
spectrum (only blueward) showed that the new object is indeed a supernova,
possibly of type I. The position of SN 2002by is about 25" west and 13"
south of the center of ESO 139-G34 (vsnet-campaign-sn
401). According to IAUC 7910, the spectrum of SN 2002by was taken at
Siding Spring Observatory on May 18.53UT, which revealed that it was of
type Ia, about 2 months after maximum. Thus, the discovery, which made
on Mar. 31 UT, was at around maximum phase (vsnet-campaign-sn
431).
