   HD 5980 had been known as the brightest WR binary in the SMC, until
the discovery of an eta Car-type outburst in 1994.  See IAUC 6099, 6102
and numerous papers (e.g. Barba et al. 1995 ApJ 446, 23L).  The GCVS Vol V
didn't seem to have followed these articles yet.
