Checking Stardial images (http://vsnet.astro.uiuc.edu/stardial/) for the galactic S star CSS 401 (Stephenson 1984), I found this star to be a probable Mira variable with a period of 293 days. The amplitude is around 2 magnitudes in unfiltered light, the magnitude in maximum varies by about 0.5 mag. Epoch of maximum: JD 2451491. B-R=2.6 from USNO-B1.0. Using VizieR I could find the following identifications: USNO-A2.0 0825-05552813 GSC 04836-01821 USNO-B1.O 0874-0221669 IRAS 07454-0228 CMT 074800.8-023540 GSC 2.2 S1021311534 Image reduction has been done using the XVista programs written by Michael Richmond, who is gratefully acknowledged.
