[vsnet-lpv 53] Re: [CCD-astrometry-photometry] Re: QX Pup
Astrometry of the red source near QX Pup on my I-band
and R-band frames, using USNO-A2.0, is
07:42:16.81 -14:42:53.1 J2000
Though I had poor seeing, the source has an obviously
broader profile than nearby stars.
From Sanchez Contraras et al., 2000, A&A 355, 1103,
the Mira is located at
07:42:16.9 -14:42:49
So the red source corresponds quite closely with the
southern, narrow lobe of nebulosity and not with
the Mira.
I will do better astrometry with UCAC and also
post a color composite image when I get additional
data with better seeing.
As I mentioned earlier, monitoring of this object
would be an interesting project for amateurs. I would
be willing to coordinate the observations, but only
for those amateurs that can observe the source in
a standard passband such as Rc or Ic. Since this is
a 700-day Mira, such a project would likely last about
3 years!
