The sparse southern open cluster NGC 2571 contains numerous suspected
variables reported by Kilambi (1978PASP...90..721K). For the most part these
have accurate (if not precise) coordinates in the GCVS v4.1. The lists below
link the NSV names to three lists of stars in cluster measured photometrically,
and for which accurate coordinates have not been available. The recent work
by Giorgi et al. (2002A&A...381..884G) contains coordinates and UBVI photometry
for many faint stars, but omits others that appear in the three earlier papers.
I show below precise coordinates for all the stars given on the charts by
Claria, Kilambi, and Lindoff. External IDs have been made with GSC, Tycho-2,
HD, CD, CPD, and the GCVS v4.1. All the coordinates come from either UCAC1 or
2MASS.
Kilambi extended Claria's numbering sequence, so I show only stars
50 to 167 from his list, and omit those without photometry. I show his V
magnitude rounded to 0.1 precision, which can be used when there is no other
data (viz. from Giorgi et al.). Comparison with Giorgi indicates the Kilambi
photographic photometry is not of high accuracy.
For Lindoff's stars I also show his photographic V magnitudes rounded to
0.1-mag. precision. Lindoff states that his results were rather poor, which is
evident from his color-magnitude diagrams and evolutionary-deviation curve.
The spectral types he estimated are given since these are not in SIMBAD (these
seem to be reasonably consistent with the photometry).
