Dear coleagues,
In examining an image of BF Ara taken by G. Bolt, I found a large
amplitude variable, which seems to be identified with Mira variable BE
Ara.
The variable was at mag about 12.5 (unfiltered, compared with
USNO-A2.0 red magnitude) on Aug. 21.5, 2002. It seems to be
consistent with the maximum (14.6p) of BE Ara and its periodicity (max
= MJD 25410 + 224E, E=121) in the on-line GCVS.
On the other hand, the identification of the on-line GCVS seems
incorrect. It identify BE Ara with an USNO-A2.0 star at 17:37:38.2
-47:12:29 (J2000.0). The object I noticed is identified with the
other star which is also catalogued in USNO-A2.0 as:
17:37:36.941 -47:12:26.17 (J2000.0) rmag=15.0 bmag=15.5
Informations from other catalogues:
GSC1.2 17:37:37.00 -47:12:27.2 (J2000.0) mag=13.04
UCAC1 17:37:37.015 -47:12:26.93 (J2000.0) UCmag=14.47
GSC2.2 17:37:36.996 -47:12:26.72 (J2000.0) Rmag=12.54
Sincerely Yours,
