[vsnet-id 675] FBS red stars list 10



     Recently some new lists of M- and C-type stars from the Byurakan spectral
survey were posted to the Strasbourg VizieR service.  A revised version of one
of these lists is given below, covering a zone between -11 and -7 Dec.
     Though the source coordinates are given to 1" precision, the actual
accuracy is only a few tens of arcsec when there is not an outright error.
Thus the first task was to get improved positions.  Since many of the stars
are nearby dwarfs, substantial proper motion is present, so positions near
the current epoch were obtained where possible.
     I matched the corrected list in VizieR against the GSC, IRAS (point- and
faint-source catalogues), MSX, and GCVS v4.1.  Every star was searched with a
3' radius in SIMBAD to find additional IDs.  Many ROSAT x-ray links were
found for the active dwarfs.  The latter are all shown in the notes at the
bottom of the table.  The notes include most of the relevant original comments
as well.  The IRAS names in the original paper seem to be all correct, but I
have added a few new ones thanks to the improved positions.
     The M-star spectral types in the last column are all given with a hyphen,
which indicates a range of uncertainty, not the range in type.
     I have left the photo-red magnitudes (column 'mr') from the original
table, which are copied from USNO-A1.0, not A2.0.  These are systematically
about 0.5 mag. brighter than the A2.0 red magnitudes for the same stars.
(No, I don't know that either is especially preferable.)  Looking at the 2MASS
J-K colors as the list was built, it was clear that some of the stars are not
very red.  For dwarfs, J-K = 0.8 at M0, and for giants J-K = 1.0 at type M0.
     Star FBS 0853-089 is noted as being different from T Hya, but as best I
can tell there is no other red star in the immediate field.
     Stars FBS 2148-087 and FBS 2357-075 were not recovered; evidently there
is some large error in the coordinates.
