The variable-star positions Mike Simonsen sent earlier today were not
quoted from astrometric catalogues, and are often several arcsec in error.
There were also a few typos. Here is a revised list with all positions
at ~0".1 precision and accuracy from Tycho-2 (source T in column 's') or
the Bordeaux meridian circle (source B). Since most of the stars are in
Tycho-1, these already have good positions in SIMBAD. It seems as though
W Crv has gone on "forever" without having its position fixed---no wonder
it hasn't received the study it deserves!
In the field of AM Tau, 1' north is another eclipser, V726 Tau.
I verified its position using the discovery chart as indicated below.
DH Hya has an incorrect position in SIMBAD, where it is switched with
a much fainter blue star nearby, again verifiable using the source chart.
I will send a note to the SIMBAD folks to get this straightened out.
\Brian
P.S.: The improved position for WX CMi that Mike supplied from Arne Henden
is also better than the GSC-2.2 position I gave earlier since the influence
of the close companion is reduced. That should be the preferred position
for the star.
