The representation of Greek letters in Roman characters has presented problems not only in databases, but in the source publications they are built from. Do note that in SIMBAD, the possibly-confused Greek letters are given with a "." at the end, e.g. "nu. Her". Another way the variable stars are distinguished is by having "V*" at the front of the name, e.g. "V* NU Her". Using the "V*" tag will always get you to the variable-star entry in SIMBAD, even if some of the biblio cited there refers to a Greek-lettered star with similar name. Thus "V* MU Cep" should be in a different place than "V* mu. Cep". Onward through the fog! \Brian
