Dear Dr. Kato,

About your comment on RX Mon I suppose that Mr. Hirosawa estimated the bright
star close to RX. The position of this bright star is not correct. RX Mon is
quite faint and higher powers are needed to estimate it now.

There have been apparent discrepancies between reported magnitudes:

  YYMMDD(UT) mag observer
  970403.860 127 (G. Comello)
  971031.160 128 (G. Comello)

  981217.826 85 (K. Hirosawa)
  981220.969 128 (G. Comello)

The object has been observed either bright or faint, none between.

I have identified RX Mon with the following Hipparcos variable; observers
please check the chart used.

Dear Dr. Kato,

I checked the position of RX Mon on both O- and E-type POSS-charts. In my
opinion there can be no doubt of the position of RX Mon. On these charts there
is a brighter star of m=9-10 (?) at 60" NE of RX. That star is brighter than
RX on the E-type POSS-chart, this suggests that it is a reddish star also.
The Millennium Star Atlas shows both stars. It strengths my opinion that the
Japanese observers have estimated the wrong star, and did not see RX Mon=
#Hipparcos 36394 at all. I think that there is no reason for any confusion-
problems. Also the AAVSO e-chart gives both stars in the right situation.
