Hi Paul- We need some photometry of Sco X-1 and are unable to get it as our
telescope has died. Obviously, you have contacts who are able to do photometry
as I see from your postings to the nova network. We are funded to monitor
Sco X-1 using the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory. The X-ray and optical flux
of this object are highly erratic, and are somehow linked to each other (though
no one has ever had the time coverage to figure out how they correlate). Our
program involved all-night (or at least as long as we could) monitoring of
Sco X-1. Sco X-1 spent June at a low state, but now has rebounded to an very
energetic state (both in V and in X-rays). Since all night monitoring is 
too much to ask of anyone, we can't ask for that. However, the most interesting
time for us is when Sco X-1 rises and sets above the earth's limb as seen by
CGRO-at these times we get an accurate measurement of the object's X-ray flux
(these events occur at 45 minute intervals). We can provide these times about
1 week ahead of their actual occurences. The alternative is simply a V magnitude
whenever someone is able to get it--all we need is a V magnitude. We have two
secondary standard stars in the field so that minimal effort is needed to get
this magnitude. Could you spread the word around to anyone who might be able
to do this? We can then send information on finder charts and where the
secondary standards are.
