 Dear Dr. de Vaucouleurs,

  After returning from Tokyo I just checked the Kiso Schmidt plate 
collection for the possible SN in NGC 4856 and I too find the
reported star 8.5 arcsec SSE of the nucleus on plates taken in
1979, 1981 and 1986. We did not take any CCD images of it now.
