  Hi Anne,

    I just sent the folowing message off to Alexei F. I saw your name
  appear among the e-mail messages that Bob G. had about this new SN,
  so I thought you might be interested also.

    I doubt if i get an answer from Alexei.

   Hi Alex,

     I just saw a note on our bulletin board about the new supernova. The
  only information is a summary of e-mail from you apparently to Harriet
  and relayed here to Don Garnett. I haven't been able to find the original
  telegram with the discovery.

     The reason i am interested is because about a year and a half ago we
  published a paper describing a stellar content survey of M81 and N2403
 ( Zickgraf and Humphreys 1991 AJ 102,113.) We produced a catalog of stellar
  objects in the field of M81. I just checked and found two of our stars
  very close in position to the new SN.

     Unfortunately there is some uncertainty in any id because our catalog
  has 1950 positions and the position you give is J2000. ( do you have a
  1950 position?)

     Our position were also derived from a grid of secondary standards set
  up on the 4-m plates derived from a solution on the POSS using the CDA
  catalog (1950). the M81 plates are from 1982.

     I also had to precess your J2000 back to 1950 and I only used a simple
  program. All of this could introduce an uncertainty of a few arcseconds.

     Wellanyway here are the comparisons:

    SN 1993J 1950 9:51:19.25  +69:15:26

    #361 1950  9:51:19.49  +69:15:36

               V= 20.42 B-V=-0.02 U-B=-0.07

    #362 1950  9:51:19.84  +69:15:51

               V=17.68 B-V=1.94 red!

    You may already have an id for the progenitor but these are the two that
  are closest to your position in our catalog.

    Do you have a chart that you could FAX me ? ( 612-626-2029) I would
  like to check it against our digitized scans to see if there is anything
  else there. I am now trying to find the mag tape with the scans.

    Please acknowledge receipt of this e-mail.

    thanks, Roberta
