[vsnet-gcvs 133] Variable stars in OGLE-II field
Variable stars in OGLE-II field
After checking some OGLE-II fields, I have noticed that a considerable
fraction of known GCVS/NSV variable stars in the OGLE-II fields has escaped
from detection.
One such example:
180317.2 -295928 (2000.0) SGRV1417 E/D: 16.23 16.6 B 32349.846 2.27 -
is not recorded as a variable star candidate in OGLE-II. This star
may be identified with either of the following BWC non-variable star.
180317.1 -295926 (2000.0) BWC28218 I=17.835 V-I=1.55
180317.1 -295927 (2000.0) BWC16773 I=17.253 V-I=1.87
This finding may suggest either of them:
1) Even OGLE-II is not far from complete in detecting variable stars.
People have enough chance to discover new variable stars in the fields
OGLE-II has already surveyed!
2) GCVS contains a certain fraction of "non-variable" variable stars.
3) The localizations of GCVS/NSV are far from complete even for
well-determined (not "lost") objects. [Regarding NSV stars, I mostly
refer to the recent NSV Supplement].
4) Other possibilities.
