As a reminder, TeX comes bundled with Linux, on RedHat at least.
It would be a lot cheaper to bite the bullet and get Linux
going than to install an expensive special-purpose package just
for TeX. In the process you also turn a relatively inexpensive
PC Into a powerful scientific workstation which can run IRAF
and various other professional software, much of which is also
free. There is a learning curve, of course.
