Having just gone through this process as a LaTex "virgin", it was not
as difficult as I thought it would be. The process is somewhat
obscurely and inadequately explained, however, and it took a lot of
digging around in on-line sources to uncover its mysteries. The subject
falls into the category of Things Everyone Knows...
IBVS thoughtfully provides a template for a paper that illustrates the
basic structure of an IBVS paper. Some very basic LaTex familiarity
helps (e.g., knowing that $\delta$ means the Greek letter lower case
delta). Fortunately, LaTex files are just text files themselves, so
a special editor isn't needed. But a LaTex typesetting program -
analogous to the Acrobat Reader - is needed to see and print on your
PC or Mac what the typeset version of the paper will look like.
I can send you a LaTex version of a lengthy paper of ours that was
just accepted and can help you with your LaTex document. I can't
recommend too highly "A Guide to LaTex" by Kopka and Daly.
Best,
Thom Gandet
