[vsnet-chat 5634] Southern EBs without periods

Sebastian --

One group of southern eclipsing binaries without periods in the GCVS comes from Hoffmeister's discoveries at Sonneberg. He went south to observer (take photos) for only a few months. He often had enough plates to show that a star was a deep eclipsing variable, but not enough plates to solve the period. One of my major projects at Harvard Observatory has been to investigate every eclipsing binary in the GCVS without a period that has southern declination, is 11.0 ptg or brighter at maximum, and has an amplitude of 0.7 magnitude or more. I have just about completed the plate estimates for this list.
