Greetings, All,
After about 30 years of UBV photometry I'm actually
doing some BVRI
photometry using an ST6B with filters from Mike Bessell. No problem on standards or techniques or anything but - how do you recognise likely variable stars in this sytem without the U and with I perhaps not as good as it should be (a seaside site with 15-25C observing conditions from October to March)? Also, is there any way of determining reddening, etc., using these filters? We can probably forget the B as this is useful only in measuring Cepheids, a particular interest. So we're probably asking for comments in the VRI system. Regards,
Stan
