In fact, exactly one "small region" of the GSC goes over 9999 serial
numbers, viz. GSC 3588-. This is in the very dense region in northeastern
Cygnus. It goes up to GSC 3588-12113. And yes, a few of them are in my
photometry file. The ten-thousandths digit remains zero for these stars
in the original GSC file, in SIMBAD's look-up, and in VizieR output!
