Personally, I don't mind a little banter from vsoers regarding their other
interests or professions. It is nice to get to know a little about the
observers we see posting observations, opinions and information on these
lists.

For instance, I find it interesting that so many amateur astronomers I meet
are also musicians or artists. Up until a few years ago, I spent most of my
nights and early morning hours "reviving the spirit of Miles and Coltrane"
in nightclubs around the Midwest. Only after closing the lid on the piano
and laying down the sax was I able to pursue my interests in observational
astronomy.

Everyone fancies themselves a gardener of sorts (especially if you're
English!), so I have many dialogues with astronomers regarding gardening,
design and maintenance. It just comes with the territory. If you are a
doctor, lawyer or horticulturist, everyone wants free advise ;-)

I have learned more about computers and the internet from astronomers than
any books I have read. Now I am learning more about astronomers from
computers and the internet than from any books I have ever read!
