    I rather think that the importance of accurate astrometry was not
properly recognized then, or by variable star researchers.  Variable star
researchers tended to think accurate finding charts supersede astrometry.
Given the secure identification on the 1984/1985 outburst, and the
published correct identification and already existent quiescent observations,
there couldn't have been, even at the time of late 1980's, such a large
error if the importance of astrometry had been considered.
