Subject: re [vsnet-chat 3113] PT Per: likely CV
Taichi Kato has recently noted the fairly coincident position of some
variables and objects in the ROSAT All Sky Survey Faint Source's
Catalogue.
Despite my having all the necessary files created on my hard disk for
other purposes, my brain had forgot to remind me to take advantage of
these for this purpose!
So, here's a list of positional coincidences up to half arcminute level
for a cross check between Downes & Shara's second edition of CV data and
the RASS-FSC.
Note 1: this is a catalogue to catalogue direct positional test, there
has been no attempt to check it using other info such as simbad or
vizier or aladdin.
Note 2: When I did the RASS-FSC AC2000 check it was easy to note that
other objects besides CVs were readily in evident. One good case
consisted of two separate AC2000 single images, the USNO position, the
GSC position and the RASS-FSC position making a nice little dot-to-dot
line... ...it turned out to be a nearby red dwarf, and all the positions
highlighted its relatively high proper motion! In which light, the case
for PT Per still remains open [ie many things can be faint xray
sources]!
