[vsnet-chat 3004] Re: IR Lyr

Re: [vsnet-chat 3001] IR Lyr

On IR Lyr from previous VSNET postings:

IR Lyr [Unknown Type, 14.6p - 16.0p]
====================================

R. Downes, Space Telescope Science Institute, MD, D. Hoard, P. Szkody,
S. Wachter, Department of Astronomy, Univeristy of Washington, WA
discuss the nature of this variable star in the October 1995 issue of
the Astronomical Journal : "Our spectroscopic observations, obtained in
quiescence, reveal strong Balmer absorption. It thus appears that IR Lyr
is not a cataclysmic variable". They further add : "The star was recently
detected in an outburst state, as reported by Vanmunster. This outburst
is atypical of dwarf nova outbursts in both duration (months) and range
(about 2.5 mag.) ... In the third edition of the GCVS, the star was
classified as a rapid, irregular (Is) variable, based on the discovery
work of Hoffmeister, Rohlfs and Ahnert."

The above findings are in line with earlier statements and observations,
published in the CVC's. We therefore have decided to drop this object
from the CVAP list, and present a final list of photometric observations
below. We'd like to use this opportunity to thank all observers who have
contributed estimates in the period 1994-1995.
