The long-awaited Tycho-2 star catalogue has been made available in the last couple of hours via the Strasbourg catalogue server and 'Vizier' look-up utility. The catalogue now contains 2.5 million stars and includes proper motions based on the AC and 143 (!) other catalogues all reduced to the ICRS system. The photometry is said to be improved, but I have not looked at it all yet. Do note that the magnitudes are the confusing "VT" and "BT", _not_ on the standard Johnson system. The basic description and links to the data themselves can be found at: http://vizier.u-strasbg.fr/viz-bin/Cat?I/259 \Brian
