As Brian noted, I did a cursory look and found
no good open cluster in the 16h region, which is
one reason why I posted the request.
I shy away from globular clusters because of
both the faintness of individual stars and the
crowding. While these issues are less important
for 1+ m class telescopes, they prevent some
otherwise nice fields from being used by amateurs.
However, NGC 5897 sounds interesting and I'll
give it a look to see if there are any blue
field stars.
I've observed NGC7790 for about 20 years
and a hundred nights, so I have a pretty good
idea about what is variable and what is not in
that field. My interest there are the three
cepheids in the cluster, plus the nice eclipsing
binary (QX Cas) to its south. If I were to set up another
field, I'd like something with interest to be
contained therein so that there is some reason
to be observing the field besides standardization.
Therefore, including an active galaxy like
AP Librae as suggested by Brian is headed
in the right direction.
