     Although there may be complications deriving from mixed seuqences,
observer bias, etc., it is not uncommon for novae to exhibit the variations
shown in the collected lightcurve.  I have "always" thought of it as the
"DK Lac-type" lightcurve, since the behavior is clearly shown for this 1950
event in Payne-Gaposchkin's classic book "The Galactic Novae".  Nova Vul 1987
(or whatever it should be called now) also showed this phenomenon clearly
in my photoelectric data for that event.
