Re: V500 Aql: eclipsing classical nova
This finding by Haefner was extremely exciting to me. This is partly
because V500 Aql is one of canonical "super-bright" novae (this nova is,
however, found often missing on conventional star charts, despite its maximum
brightness), and because I had noticed the postnova substantially fainter
than the cataloged value (this may already suggests something unusual).
From these particular points, years ago I selected this nova as a particular
target for quiescent time-series at Ouda Station, but soon realized it
impossible by a 60-cm telescope because of its faintness. Congratulations
to Haefner, and I wish I could have used a bigger telescope ;-)

Taichi Kato
