Norwegian Astronomical Society - Variable Star Section ***** Comparison stars for Nova Velorum 1999 ***** I have prepared a list of bright comparison stars for Nova Vel 1999. This list, given below, contains star names, positions, V magnitudes, B-V colours, angular distances from the nova, and suggested identifications of the comparison stars. Positions and photometric data are taken from The Hipparcos Catalogue (ESA 1997). Star names with Greek and Roman letters are due to Lacaille (ref. Werner and Schmeidler, 1986: Synopsis of the Nomenclature of the Fixed Stars), others are HR numbers from Yale Bright Star Catalogue, 5th edition (Hoffleit et al., 1991). A number of the stars are slightly variable, but they should be OK for visual observations. I have selected stars within 20 degrees from the nova, with B-V < 1.25, and to a limiting magnitude from below 5.0 (near the nova) to 2.5 (at distance 20 degrees). Name R.A. (2000.0) Decl.
