[vsnet-chat 1905] Nova Vel 1999

Hello All,

Re the visual discovery of Nova Vel 1999, I would like to acknowledge and
thank the efforts of Andrew Pearce (Western Australia) and Mati Morel (NSW)
for their efforts in helping to confirm this object.

On the day of discovery my email Outbox file had become damaged (very poor
timing) which left me 'yelling' into the mouse but still nobody could hear!
Reverting to the ancient by still very effective form of communicating by
telephone, Andrew and Mati both checked out this object at very short
notice and sent emails to the vsnet on my behalf. Thanks Guys.

Also, the efforts of long time friend Steve Lee, night assistant at the
AAT, who arranged for this instrument to obtain a spectra of the star
within one hour of my phone call, despite my 'poor' initial co-ordinates.
Steve and Andrew also kindly emailed the CBAT resulting in IAUC7176.

A lesson here for next time is the importance of having _accurate
co-ordinates_ to make life that little bit easier for the professionals
who are requested to obtain spectra to confirm an object's nature. Steve
tells me they had some difficulty locating this 3rd magnitude star, not
because of its brightness but because of the small (2 x 3 arcmin)
acquisition field in use with the 2dF spectrograph.

Thanks again.

Regards

Peter Williams
