The position of V4006 Sgr has only a rough position in the GCVS. While preparing
a chart for V4444 Sgr I have determined a precise position. A finder chart can
be found in the Journal of the AAVSO Vol. 4, No2, p64 (1975-76), which shows
that
the variable is located less than 1' due N of GSC 6850.01524 (m = 9.7). In the
USNO-A2.0 catalogue a very red star can be found at this location, and I assume
this to be V4006 Sgr. The position is
(J2000) 18h7m22.17s -27o24'42.85" r = 15.1, b = 20.5
(1950) 18 4 13.8 -27 25 8.2
No other star in the vicinity is as red, which makes it a likely match for V4006
Sgr, a Mira variable, range 11.6 - (14.4p.
Cheers,
/Mati
