[vsnet-chat 1859] SN 1999by spectrum



Dear all,

  The spectrum of SN 1999by has been observed by MDM observatory on
May 2.2 UT, which shows that it is of type Ia about 10 days before
maximum (IAUC 7158).  They reports that there are absorption features
at 485, 500, 546, 575, and 612 nm.  The 612 nm is typical for SNeIa,
but the presence of 575 nm feature may suggests that it is not a
typical SNeIa but somewhat peculiar one.  Further observation should
be needed. 

  Meanwhile, Dr. Maurice Gavin, Worcester Park Observatory, UK has
obtained 2D spectrum of SN 1999by on May 2.  It can be accessed at:
