The star Timo mentions near NGC 3147 is DH Dra = NSV 4799. There
is an article about it by Dieter B\"ohme in the Journ. AAVSO vol. 20, page
208 (1991). It is a red variable apparently of type S.
Does the object near NGC 4244 actually show on Salmi's photograph?
At the moment I suspect it is a flaw on the POSS-I red print: it does not
appear as even a trace on the contemporaneous blue print, and does not show
a trace on the POSS-II J or F films. Either a flaw or possibly an extremely
red star---but no IRAS detection. The position Timo gives is accurate for
the POSS-I red-print object, and since there must surely be many images of
this galaxy/field, it should be easy for folks to check this suspect.
