Dear vsnet-chatters,
I would like to make a very late responce to the discussion about
the followup observations of SNe:
> I think the driver is probably the spectroscopic interest rather
>than merely whether an event is bright or not (although the brightest
>events will surely be well observed, such as with the M81 and M51 SNe).
>Photometric monitoring for such events will be valuable as an aid in
>interpreting the spectroscopy.
Also it is notable that the photometric data (light curve) will give a
good view about the mass of the ejecta: rapid change in brightness is
a typical sign for small ejecta. For instance, SN 1993J has very small
hydrogen envelope, but this was not aware from spectral observations.
From the light curve, the nature of this ejecta was presumed for the
first (see Nomoto et al., 1993, Nature, 364, 507). Thank the
photometric observers!
Best wishes,
