[vsnet-campaign 329] Re: (fwd) V446 Her observing campaign

While I think getting detailed light curves of this
old nova would be valuable, I want to further caution possible
collaborators a little bit. As mentioned in the campaign
notice, and also obvious from the finding chart in
Honeycutt, et al. (AJ 115, 2527, 1998) figure 19,
V446 Her is part of a very close quartet of stars.
Unless you have *very* good seeing and good pixelization,
you will not be able to resolve these stars and will
in fact obtain combined photometry. This is the reason
why the measured amplitude is so low; the actual outburst
magnitude is actually quite normal. The results
from different sites will depend on how the individual
systems perform and how the data is measured. I had
to use only my best images from the 1.0-m and careful
psf-fitting to be able to get magnitudes of each of
the four stars. Gaensicke requests that you use a
large enough aperture to include the two close companions;
while there are actually three companions, such an aperture
will automatically include the third star. You need to somehow
center the aperture properly; center-of-light is not correct
since that will change with the variable's brightness. I will be
interested in seeing how well you can subtract the contribution
of the three companions from unfiltered datasets.
