Dear colleagues, I already reported CCD photometry on the present outburst of V493 Lyr, through VSNET-CAMPAIGN 193. Basically, the light curve during that run was very flat, showing no obvious signals. I obtained further CCD photometry on 2000, Jun 12/13, using the 0.35-m f/6.3 telescope of CBA Belgium Observatory and an unfiltered ST-7 CCD. This time, the resulting light curve is showing some modulation, although I wouldn't attribute it to superhumps. For your convenience, the results are attached to this email. To me, it seems V493 Lyr indeed is a long-period UGSS-type dwarf nova, as also suggested by Taichi Kato, in VSNET-CAMPAIGN 194. When discussing the Jun 12/13 lightcurve with Taichi, he remarked that it is his impression that UGSS stars with a slow rise tend to show short-term variation. The reason why is unclear. But V493 Lyr might be a good example. I would appreciate any comments from vsnet readers on this subject !
